As my buddy Scott says PL&F are the best Dead cover band around...LOL.
Look, I have to agree with the Stratocaster on this, Jerry was more than just a musician etc, he was the heart and soul of the music, the scene and the band. He transcended the music by not only pouring his emotions into it but he was able to transmit those emotions to us. He made those of us in the audience feel with him, that was his magic. When you were in the audience and hearing him create his magic in real time it was truly an ecstatic experience. Jerry's music was 3 dimensional, he played in colors and textures that cannot be captured, and listening to shows, no matter how clean or vivid, just does not do justice. This is why so many people prefer a good aud copy to the sbd, because you can get a sense of what it was like to be there. When you saw the GD, or JGB live on a good Jerry night there was nothing to compare it to (on the other hand there were nights when it just wasn't working and these were often painful to watch). PL&F and certainly RatDog cannot even come close to that. Having said that, PL&F is the best we've got and in certain aspects they do translate better to a CD or Hard drive, because what Jerry offered could never be adequately captured on any media. Sorry folks, you just had to be there to really appreciate the full extent of his talents.
I love PL&F and have been to many of his great shows. Phil surrounds himself with talented innovative musicians who do a great job of playing the music, but, in a live setting at least, I have never felt the music like I did with Jerry on stage.
